Offered, from a former teaching collection, is a fascinating and extremely rare 6cm X 4cm X 2.5 complete upper skull of the dicynodont (mammal-like) reptile Diictodon felliceps, from the Late Permian, Karoo Group of south west Africa.

Although laterally compressed, all of the major bones are in place and both orbits,dorsal fenestrae and nasal openings are well preserved. The anterior nasal bone is recurved into a 'beak, and is essentially complete, A juvenile female animal is represented, as the emerging tusks of a male would be obvious at this growth stage.

There are additional bone fragments in the matrix and further preparation with air tools is recommended; the quality of bone throughout is very good. The mudstone matrix is relatively easy to prepare.

Affordable price for such a rarity, and one for the serious reptile specialists!
