Offered is a fascinating and essentially complete double reptile from the Late Permian of Madagascar; preserved in fine detail two articulated examples of the aquatic lizard-like reptile Barosaurus besairiei Piveteau, 1955.
The largest specimen is 17.5cm from the tip of the toes to the tip of the skull. It has both limbs on the right side complete with well preserved digits, tarsals and carpals etc, The skull is intact and the vertebrae and ribs articulated, but truncated by a natural joint.
The slightly smaller example (16cm) is more complete and has three limbs intact, the fourth, a real limb and the tail trucated by another natural joint. This specimen is also articulated with a fine skull witrh vertebrae and ribs largely intact, and the anterior limbs retain the digits, again in fine detail.
From the Lower Sakemena Formation (Lopingian) of the Morondava Basin, further preparation and cleaning with modern air tools would greatly enhance these displayable specimens
Matrix approx 20cm X 20cm X 2.5cm: weight 1.95kg.
Affordable price for such a well preserved and essentially complete example and a fascinating legacy of late Palaeozoic life.
essentially complete and fine Barosaurus besairei with excellent limbs: Upper Permian of Madagascar.
Although I sell a very wide range of fossils from Pre- Cambrian to Pleistocene age, I specialize in trilobites from all over the globe and in particular, British species.
I collect regularly in the UK, with more than forty five years of fieldwork experience and probably the best working knowledge of British trilobite localities. I have a doctorate and a masters degree in trilobite taxonomy and British Palaeozoic stratigraphy and an Open University degree in Natural Sciences.
If you are an amateur collector, a more serious scientific collector, or an agent for an educational organization ( e.g College, University or Museum), I can supply materials to suit your needs! I also buy whole collections and trade materials too. Visits are welcome,by appointment only.
