Offered is a piece of matrix approx. 21cm X 16cm X 2cm.(weight 1.9kg), from the famous Cretaceous (Cenomanian) quarries at Hakel, Lebanon; preserving four different species from three phyla: a large (13.5cm) and excellent example of the classic Upper Cretaceous Lebanese fish Nematonotus longispinus, a fine and scarse 7cm Diplomystus birdi a splendid 11.5cm Cephalopod (Squid) with soft body preservation and two shrimps.
The Nematonous is laterally reserved and complete with all dorsal, ventral and tail fins intact, and in fine preservation. The skull is particularly impressive, with the tiny crushing jaws agape, the orbit defined and the operculum preserved. The tail fin is overlapping a complete shrimp with walking appendages and long antennae preserved. A complete vertebral column is preserved along with numerous ribs and gut contents too.
The Dyplomystus birdi too is finely preserved and replete also with all fins in detail, a skull with jaws agape and a full vertebral column with all ribs,
Adjacent to Diplomystus is a fascinating, well preserved and complete squid (Cephalopod) with detailed soft body preservation including five of the feeding tentacles complete, the internal digestive tract and the internal position of the ink-sac are well defined.. Well preserved too are the twin anteriuor lateral 'fins' used for submarine propulsion and steering. This specimen is unidentified, but may be related to modern species, such as Gould';s Squid, from Australian waters...............for additional interest there is a small shrimp overlapped by the squid.
Affordable price for such a splendid and displayable multiple plate!
Although I sell a very wide range of fossils from Pre- Cambrian to Pleistocene age, I specialize in trilobites from all over the globe and in particular, British species.
I collect regularly in the UK, with more than forty five years of fieldwork experience and probably the best working knowledge of British trilobite localities. I have a doctorate and a masters degree in trilobite taxonomy and British Palaeozoic stratigraphy and an Open University degree in Natural Sciences.
If you are an amateur collector, a more serious scientific collector, or an agent for an educational organization ( e.g College, University or Museum), I can supply materials to suit your needs! I also buy whole collections and trade materials too. Visits are welcome,by appointment only.
