Offered is an almost complete, good sized (10.5cm along axis) and detailed example of the Upper Silurian Eurypterid (Sea Scorpion) Balteurypterus tetragonopthalma from the River Smotrych, Kamieniec Podolski, Ukraine.
An unusually complete and articulated specimen, the cephalothorax retains both crescentic eyes, part of the right paddle and at least one appendage. .The thorax is articulated, and the telson spine is entire and undamaged. The original shell material is preserved over the entire specimen too.
For additional interest, there is a second specimen lying diagonally beneath, and facing the opposite direction; a telson and posterior somites are discernable.
Matrix approx. 213cm X 11cm X 2cm.
Affordable price for such a near complete and quality example of this very delicate and increasingly uncommon Eurypterid.
Although I sell a very wide range of fossils from Pre- Cambrian to Pleistocene age, I specialize in trilobites from all over the globe and in particular, British species.
I collect regularly in the UK, with more than forty five years of fieldwork experience and probably the best working knowledge of British trilobite localities. I have a doctorate and a masters degree in trilobite taxonomy and British Palaeozoic stratigraphy and an Open University degree in Natural Sciences.
If you are an amateur collector, a more serious scientific collector, or an agent for an educational organization ( e.g College, University or Museum), I can supply materials to suit your needs! I also buy whole collections and trade materials too. Visits are welcome,by appointment only.
