Offered is a very rare, complete and articulated Palaeochiropteryx tupalodon: an extinct bat, preserved in very fine detail, including both wings, skull, spine and tail, and both hind-limbs with digits!
The specimen is preserved in dorso-ventral compression; the skull is intact with lower jaw visible and some minute dentition under magnification. Both wings are complete or nearly so; the right wing shows excellent detail of the elongated finger-bones that stretch the wing membrane for flight, and the bases of these bones are intact on the left wing too.
The tiny pelvis and weak hind-limbs are articulated too, with tarsals and metatarsals well preserved, as is the short tail. Matrix approx. 21cm X 17.5cm X 1.5cm.
Altogether a very rare and fascinating legacy of Eocene life at an affordable price.
The pelvis and part of the spine is intact and the sternum is clearly seen, associated with a fine articulated wing. The second limb is present but displaced and dis-articulated, with the other ankle and foot, equally well preserved and detailed, at the top of the specimen.
Altogether a fascinating legacy of Eocene life at an affordable price!
Fine and rare complete and articulated bat Palaeochiroperyx tupalodon;
Although I sell a very wide range of fossils from Pre- Cambrian to Pleistocene age, I specialize in trilobites from all over the globe and in particular, British species.
I collect regularly in the UK, with more than forty five years of fieldwork experience and probably the best working knowledge of British trilobite localities. I have a doctorate and a masters degree in trilobite taxonomy and British Palaeozoic stratigraphy and an Open University degree in Natural Sciences.
If you are an amateur collector, a more serious scientific collector, or an agent for an educational organization ( e.g College, University or Museum), I can supply materials to suit your needs! I also buy whole collections and trade materials too. Visits are welcome,by appointment only.
